Order of the National Green Tribunal in the matter of Adivasi Majdoor Kisan Ekta Sangthan & Others Vs Ministry of Environment and Forests & Others regarding Environmental Clearance granted to Gare – IV/6 Coal Mining Project (4 MTPA) and a Pithead Coal Washery (4 MTPA) of M/s Jindal Steel & Power Limited located at Raigarh District of Chhattisgarh State, by the Ministry of Environment & Forests.

The Western Ghats is distinct for its inter-woven network of protected, reserved and community conserved forest areas comprising wildlife corridors spanning long distances, cutting across boundaries that segment it into states. The area has for long been, under constant pressure from unplanned and unrestrained "developmental activities" like mining, thermal power plants, industries, commercial tourism and construction projects, notwithstanding the fragility of its ecosystem.

Judgement of the National Green Tribunal in the matter of Praffula Samantra Vs Union of India and Others dated 30/03/2012. This appeal is filed against the final order dated 31.1.2011 of the Ministry of Environment & Forests, imposing additional conditions to the Environmental Clearances in respect of (i) steel cum captive power plant project and (ii) captive minor port project of M/s POSCO India (for short POSCO) during the year 2007.

National Green Tribunal (NGT) has suspended the environment clearance granted to the proposed POSCO project in Orissa on grounds of faulty Environment Impact Assessment.

The National Green Tribunal has put on hold the Bhadreshwar thermal power plant at Mundra in Gujarat. It has asked the project proponent, OPG Power Gujarat Pvt Ltd, to stop all works at its 300 MW power plant till it gets the requisite environmental clearance.

"We have no hesitation to hold that until OPG Power Gujarat Pvt Ltd obtains clearance to use reserve forest land and clearance from the Coastal Regulation Zone Authorities, it cannot go ahead with the project," said a bench comprising chairperson A S Naidu and Vijai Sharma on February 14.

National Green Tribunal Judgment dated 9/02/2012, on Sponge Iron Plant in District Raigarh, Chattisgarh, before 2004 i.e. prior to issuance of EIA Notification, 2006. The production capacity of the said existing unit was 66,000 TPA of Sponge Iron (2 x 100 TPD kilns).

Environment ministry granted clearance even though mandatory public consultations were not held The National Green Tribunal has suspended the environment clearance granted to the sponge iron plant of Scania Steel and Power Ltd in Raigarh district of Chhattisgarh. The Union Ministry of Environment and Forests (MoEF) had granted environment clearance to the project in 2008 even though the mandatory public hearing was not held for it.

The Bombay High Court has said it will decide whether the National Green Tribunal (NGT) Act of 2010 can be used to adjudicate alleged irregularities by the Lavasa township.
