Exposure to hormonally active substances like diethylstilbestrol increases chances of reproductive abnormalities, metabolic disorders, obesity, diabetes and cancer

Diethylstilbestrol, a drug no longer prescribed for pregnant women, causes increased risk of vaginal, uterine and breast cancer

Low level of exposure to bisphenol A can increase susceptibility to breast or prostrate cancer

Prenatal exposure to vinclozoline, a common fungicide, promotes later development of cancer

Increasing occurrence of testicular cancer, poor semen quality, and cryptorchidism in men has been linked to foetal exposure to mothers' smoking and diethylstilbestrol

Fertility treatment of the mother, exposure to phthalates and pesticides are also risky

A combination of many toxic chemicals and other factors may cause anomalies in brain function

Exposure to chemicals like polychlorinated biphenyls along with maternal stress affects immunity.
