The Municipal Corporation of Delhi (mcd) has released the capital's first garbage master plan. It involves putting in place a mechanism of engaging private operators for collecting and transporting municipal solid waste, and implementing a waste treatment and disposal plan through public-private partnership. The estimated expenditure is Rs 3,700 crore.

"Waste generation in Delhi is expected to increase from the present 2,000,000 lakh tonnes per annum (tpa) to 5,000,000 lakh tpa in 25 years. The plan, therefore, recommends different facilities for optimal treatment of wastes so that the refuse going for final disposal is reduced by 48 per cent by 2025,' disclosed mcd executive engineer Surinder Pal. It proposes a mix of technologies
