The United Nations Development Program (UNDP) offices in South Korea have extended their helping hands in transfer of agricultural equipment from to North Korea. Severe drought and tidal waves have destroyed a major part of the country's crops this year, including 70 per cent of the maize crop. The equipment would include earth-moving machinery and transport and support vehicles. According to Christian Lemaire, resident representative of the UNDP in Pyongyang, this is the first real cooperation between the two countries on sustainable activities in the agricultural sector. The shipment is expected to bolster the UNDP's Agricultural Rehabilitation Programme in South Korea.

The United Nations Population Fund (UNPF) has planned to provide US $15 million for its fourth programme of cooperation with Angola till the year 2000. The decision was announced by UN officials in Luanda recently. Idalina Bamba, a UNPF official, said that the grant is aimed at reviving the development process in the country and that it would enhance the quality and life standard of the people in Angola. Bamba said that UNPF has also planned to improve the quality of medical services rendered to pregnant women and reduce mortality.
