An award-winning vehicle designed at London's South Bank University by engineering graduate Paul Chapp may provide an alternative to conventional mopeds and motor- cycles. The scooter's 12-volt battery receives a charge from the solar papel above the rear wheel, producing enough electricity on a bright day to give it a travelling range of over 10 km at 30 kin pet hour. An electricity mains socket allows a top-up charge on a cloudy day or when parked in a garage. A display panel indicates battery reserves and the charging rate of the solar cells.
