 SHUT'EM DOWN [1]

Inspite of repeated warnings, the 163 odd tanneries in Tamil Nadus North Arcot district have failed to set up common effluent treatment plants (CETPs). In the process, they have earned the wrath of the Supreme Court, which on September 8, ordered these tanneries to be closed immediately. The tanneries - in Vaniyambadi, "bur, Pernambut, Arcot and Ranipet - can move the Court for a change in its orders after taking step; towards the setting up of the CETPs. The order was in response to a public interest petition filed by the Vellore Citizens' Welfare Forum.
