Even as health hazards of groundwater contamination is still getting fully assessed for the people living in Keezhmadu grama panchayat, people are also concerned about the social impact of this environmental hazard on their lives.
An unfavourable health status is a private matter, but since the problem of thyroid disorders because of the alleged ammonium perchlorate contamination of groundwater has become a public issue, the people wonder whether their land will forever be condemned and whether people from other places would take up marriage alliances in the area.
