The national bamboo mission has listed three major targets:
To use bamboo development as an instrument of poverty alleviation and employment generation, particularly in the rural sector
To promote organised production and processing of bamboo shoots, and their consumption as a part of the national effort to eliminate micronutrient deficiency
To use bamboo as a means to reclaim degraded land, conserve soil, improve the environment and carry out drought-proofing.
