Order of the National Green Tribunal regarding dumping of municipal solid waste at Achan, Srinagar, Jammu & Kashmir, 19/08/2016 [1]

Order of the National Green Tribunal in the matter of Dr. Irfan Ahmad & Ors. Vs. Mr. Nawang Rigzin Jora & Ors. dated 19/08/2016 regarding Achan municipal waste dumping site, Srinagar, Jammu & Kashmir.

Counsel appearing for the state of Jammu & Kashmir informed the court that "keeping in view the peculiar facts and circumstances prevailing in the Srinagar in these days, it is not possible to dump municipal solid waste at any other place infact there is no identified site as of now and the waste cannot be permitted to lie on the roads and colonies of Srinagar". The NGT permitted waste to be dumped at the existing site till the next date of hearing - in view of the peculiar facts and circumstances explained at the Bar. The authorities have been directed to find a suitable alternative site for dumping waste in the meanwhile.
