Judgement of the National Green Tribunal (Eastern Zone Bench, Kolkata) in the matter of Calcutta Citizens's Initiative & Others Vs State of West Bengal & Others dated 15/11/2017 regarding threat to the environment of the Rabindra Sarobar Lake and its surrounding due to football matches held during night time and other social activities including activities of the clubs located in the premises of Rabindra Sarobar Lake.

NGT Eastern Bench directs KMDA (Kolkata Metropolitan Development Authority) to prepare a DPR (Detailed Project Report) for implementation of the recommendations under “Flora and Fauna, water quality of the Sarovar (Lake) and Lake sediments & sub surface soil “in consultation with experts from Botanical Survey of India, Zoological Survey of India, the State Biodiversity Board and Water Resource Department, Govt. of West Bengal. Night time matches/tournaments shall be strictly prohibited in the Rabindra Sarobar Stadium, day time activities will be permitted but without bursting of fire crackers and with regulated sound intensity and regulated traffic.
