Order of the National Green Tribunal in the matter of Court on its own Motion Vs State of Punjab dated 16/07/2018 regarding contamination of drinking water by heavy metals in Punjab especially in Districts of Amritsar and Ludhiana because of polluting industries.
A Report of the Punjab Pollution Control Board dated 24th April, 2018 submitted before NGT states that the officers of Punjab Water Supply & Sewerage Board have been advised to upgrade the STP to meet the BOD of 10 mg/I from BOD of 30 mg/I. NGT directs all the statutory authorities to act in tandem to achieve the standards laid down by the statutory provisions meant for protection of public health.
