Order of the National Green Tribunal in the matter of Ankita Sinha Vs. State of Maharashtra & Others dated 07/08/2018 regarding illegal disposal of waste from the dumping zones of the garbage at Deonar in Mumbai. The unregulated and unauthorized activities are carried out for profiteering which results in massive fires, adversely affecting the environment and the health and lives of inhabitants.
NGT directs a joint inspection to be conducted by representative of Central Pollution Control Board, representative of Maharashtra Pollution Control Board, the District Collector of the area and the representative of Municipal Corporation, Greater Mumbai. The said Committee may prepare an Action Plan for remediation of the legacy waste in the area, apart from such other steps as may be considered necessary.
