Order of the Supreme Court of India in the matter of In Re: T. N. Godavarman Thirumulpad Vs Union of India & Others dated 04/10/2018 regarding rehabilitation of farmers from Andaman and Nicobar Islands. These applications relate to the rehabilitation of farmers from Andaman and Nicobar Island.

One of the major problems faced is due to the Tsunami that struck the Andaman and Nicobar Islands. Some land mass was washed away as a result of the Tsunami. ASG says that there is hardly any land available for compensatory afforestation. In any case about 87% of the land mass is a natural notified forest. It is further submitted by the ASG that it may be appropriate if the officers of the Andaman and Nicobar Islands Administration / officers of the Ministry of Environment and Forests and the CEC sit together to sort out the issue taking into consideration the peculiar problems faced by the Andaman and Nicobar Islands.
