Order of the National Green Tribunal in the matter of Jammula Choudharaiah & Others Vs Union of India & Others dated 21/01/2019 regarding the construction activities undertaken by the State of Andhra Pradesh by way of Purushothapatnam Lift Irrigation Scheme without Environmental Clearance. The project is located at the Akhanda Godavari Left Bank at Km 40.800 near Purushothapatnam Village in Seethanagaram(M), East Godavari District, Andhra Pradesh which involves diversion of flow of River Godavari to Yeluru River. In the process, there will be damage to the environment, including destruction of fertile land. The construction activities started on 30.01.2017.

NGT directs the MoEF&CC to take a decision in the matter within one month and if it is found that the project is in violation of Section 5 of EIA Notification, 2006, to take further appropriate action in accordance with law within further one month.
