Order of the National Green Tribunal in the matter of Namita Maniktala Vs State of Himachal Pradesh & Others dated 10/05/2019 regarding dumping of solid waste in river Beas in the State of Himachal Pradesh.

The stand of the state of Himachal Pradesh is that funds for setting up solid waste processing plant are to be provided by the Central Government which is not being done. There was a conflict between the Ministry of Environment, Forests and Climate Change (MoEF&CC) and the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs (MoHUA) of the Central Government as to who will provide the funds. The Tribunal directed a joint meeting between the two. Vide report dated 28.09.2018, it was stated that a joint meeting was held and the MoHUA had approved the proposal for providing funds to Himachal under the Swachh Bharat Mission (SBM).

NGT directs the Secretary, MoHUA to personally look into the matter and take final decision within one month since matter has been pending since long. An action taken report should be furnished before the Tribunal.
