Order of the National Green Tribunal regarding discharge of sewage and wastes by boats into the rivers Dibru, Brahmaputra and Dangori in Tinsukia district, Assam, 26/11/2021 [1]

Order of the National Green Tribunal (Eastern Zone Bench, Kolkata) in the matter of Sudhan Das Vs State of Asssm & Others dated 26/11/2021.

The matter related to discharge of sewerage and other wastes by boats and houseboats into the rivers Dibru, Brahmaputra and Dangori in Tinsukia district, Assam.

Affidavit filed by the Assam State Pollution Control Board, November 12, 2021 informed the court that the amount of Rs. 2,25,000/- towards environmental compensation fine had been imposed upon the polluting unit - M/s Royal Princes, which the concerned polluting unit has not deposited till date.

The said house boat unit had also filed an appeal before the Supreme Court, wherein the SC had directed for deposit of Rs.1,25,000/- with the registry of this court and listed the matter for November 22, 2021.

In view of the matter, the NGT directed that the matter must come up before the Tribunal after the decision of the SC and adjourned the matter sine die.
