Order of the Supreme Court in the matter of M. C. Mehta Vs Union of India & Others dated 22/03/2022.
Applications were filed for registration of vehicles used for public utility and essential services. Amicus Curiae stated that BS-VI diesel light and heavy-duty vehicles used for public utility and essential services may be permitted to be registered or in the alternative applicants can approach the Air Commission with a request for a registration.
The bench of Justices L. Nageswara Rao and B. R. Gavai directed the registering authorities to consider the applications for registration of BS VI diesel light and heavy-duty vehicles for public utility and essential services in accordance with law without insisting on the applicants approaching the Supreme Court for suitable orders.
