Order of the National Green Tribunal in the matter of Sandeep Singh Vs Union of India & Others dated 25/05/2022. The appeal was against grant of Environmental Clearance (EC), January 19, 2022 by State Level Environment Impact Assessment Authority (SEIAA), Punjab for project 'Omaxe Chandigarh Extension' for expansion.

According to the appellant, substantial construction had already been raised and "ex-post facto EC has been granted mechanically for huge area of 6,48,511.154 sqm without holding the PP accountable for the violation in raising construction without prior EC." The NGT directed submission of an independent factual report from a joint committee.

The joint committee would undertake visit to the site, interact with the stakeholders, verify factual position and furnish a report. Compliance of the draft notification of MoEF&CC on residential townships may also be mentioned, the NGT said.
