The traditional coastal communities has been permitted to remove the sand bars in the intertidal areas only through a non-mechanical manual method and strictly in accordance with the guidelines contained in the notification dated January 18, 2019 (as amended on November 24, 2022) issued by the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change.
The grievance in the application is that sand mining is being done in the coastal regulatory zone in the guise of removing sand bars.
