An illegal stack yard is being run at the Nergundi Railway Siding of the East Coast Railway and violating the Guidelines for Environmental Management in Mineral Stack Yards and Railway Sidings dated April 16, 2010 issued by the Odisha State Pollution Control Board said an application filed before the NGT, July 27, 2023.

The NGT was of the opinion that the matter required consideration and directed notices to be issued to the Government of Odisha, Odisha State Pollution Control Board, East Coast Railway among others. The tribunal also ordered the constitution of a committee. The committee was directed to visit the site and submit its report. If the violations are found, the committee has been entrusted to suggest remedial measures as well determine the environmental compensation and the authorities have been asked to take necessary measures. The next hearing of the case has been listed for September 6 2023.
