The application was registered on the basis of the news item which appeared in the media which raised the issue of encroachments in lake land in Bengaluru Urban district. According to the news item, there is uncleared encroachment on 960.32 acres of lake land. These encroachments have also resulted in polluting the water and dumping of solid waste at the site.

Concerning the issue involved, the tribunal directed the formation of a joint committee composed of the Secretary, Karnataka State Pollution Control Board; the Chairman, Lake Development Authority and the concerned District Magistrate. The Joint Committee has been directed to submit an action taken report before the Southern Bench of the tribunal within eight weeks.
