The matter is related to brick kilns in district Budgam.

Out of a total of 226 brick kilns in district Budgam - 100 were given consent to operate, while 11 brick kilns have applied for consent/renewal and closure orders have been issued to 43. In addition, legal notices have been issued and action initiated against 72 brick kilns. No new brick kilns in Budgam district have been accorded consent to establish by the Jammu & Kashmir Pollution Control Committee till further directions from the NGT.

All the existing brick kilns have been brought under the ambit of consent mechanism strictly in accordance with the conditions stipulated in the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change.
