The Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change (MoEF&CC) on January 31, 2024, issued a notification regarding the declaration of the Union Territory of Ladakh as an Air Pollution Control Area. The following has been stated: In exercise of the powers conferred by section 6 and Sub-section (1) of section 19 of the Air (Prevention and Control of Pollution) Act, 1981, read with rule 8 of the Air (Prevention and Control of Pollution) (Union Territories) Rules, 1983, the Central Government after consultation with the Ladakh Pollution Control Committee, declares, with effect from January 31, 2024, the whole of the Union Territory of Ladakh as Air Pollution Control Area.
