Order of the National Green Tribunal regarding remedial actions to be taken for abatement of pollution of river Bhadar near Ahmedabad, Gujarat, 09/05/2025 [1]

Order of the National Green Tribunal in the matter of Ramdevbhai Samatbhai Sanjva Vs State of Gujarat & Others dated 09/05/2025.

The matter related to remedial actions to be taken for abatement of pollution of river Bhadar near Ahmedabad.

Gujarat Pollution Control Board (GPCB) has filed the response affidavit, March 10, 2025 disclosing the compliance status of the recommendations made by the joint committee.

GPCB said that Jetpur Navagadh Nagarpalika has started the operation of 23.5 MLD sewage treatment plant (STP). Disposal of Industrial effluent through C-channel has been stopped since the entire ā€˜C’ channel system is demolished. Also, Jetpur Dyeing and Printing Association (JDPA) has provided four effluent collection sumps and started its operation where industrial effluents from industrial units is received through GPS mounted tankers. STP of JDPA is presently collecting and treating the sewage generated from Bhadar Samakantha area as household connection of remaining 30 per cent area of Jetpur city is still under process by Nagarpalika. These were some of the submissions made by the GPCB.

Counsel for the applicant referred to a rejoinder affidavit filed which stated that there is a drain which is still polluting the Bhadar river. GPCB submitted that they have not received the copy of the affidavit and on receipt of the same immediate remedial action would be taken by the GPCB.

The NGT directed GPCB to file a fresh action taken report within four weeks. The next hearing of the case would be held on September 8, 2025.
