Manchar, Asia's largest fresh water lake, is heading towards doom. Salinity levels in the lake, situated in Pakistan's Dadu district, have risen dangerously as saline water from the Salinity Control and Reclamation Project area continues to be drained into the lake.

As a result, fish catches have declined sharply from 3,000 tonnes per year in 1950 to less than 300 tonnes today, prompting the fisherfolk of Manchar to leave their homes in search of places with better fishing prospects.
