Climate change is affecting foodgrain production.
The prospect of a serious shortage of foodgrains looms large over Karnataka. The Economic Survey, 2008-09, has predicted that foodgrain production in the state will fall short of the 125.25 lakh tonnes target set for 2008-09 by at least 16.48 lakh tonnes. The deficit in production of cereals alone is expected to be around 13 lakh tonnes.
