 NO MORE WOOD [1]

With limits set on tree felling, residents in Thimpu, Bhutan, are facing a chilling winter. The forestry services division has specified the tree species to be cut so that indiscriminate tree felling can be curbed. "The aim is to discourage the use of hardwood for long term sustainability of the forest resources," says Dasho Sangay, secretary, forestry services division. The limits now are one truckload of firewood for a month for each resident. Increased use of power as a house warming fuel will be encouraged to deter the people from turning to firewood.
