 TRAWLING CONCESSIONS [1]

The government of Pakistan will allow factory trawlers of China, Taiwan and Korea to do deep-sea fishing in the country's waters. "The permits to foreign trawlers require the mandatory installation of a monitoring system,' said Shafi Niaz, chairperson of the country's national fisheries development board. The decision has raised concerns among the local fisherfolk and environmentalists. Following the decision, the royalty charged from a trawler has been doubled from US $5,000 to US $10,000.
