Statistics of the Kurunegala Teaching Hospital show that 1,777 dengue patients had taken treatment from the hospital in 2009.

Of this number 20 had died. Kurunegala Teaching Hospital Assistant Director Dr. A. Priyadarshana told The Island that 144 awareness programmes had been planned for schools and other local government institutions in the Kurunegala District in 2010.
