 BUOYING UP [1]

Plans are afoot to build the world's largest floating power station which will supply 450 MW of power to energy-starved Pakistan. The plant would cost US $402 million, 95 per cent of which would be raised through a long-term loan provided by the US maritime administration. Westinghouse Electric Corporation of the US will be another partner in the consortium. The plant would start operating in 28 months. It will be carried by six barges which will float in the Arabian Sea at Port Qasim in southern Pakistan.
