The Tamil Nadu Agricultural University, Coimbatore, has come up with an innovative tractor- drawn groundnut harvester. Groundnut is usually harvested by hand, which consumes a lot of time and energy. The groundnut harvester is applicable for a 35 horsepower tractor attached to a nine-tyred cultivator frame. The harvester comes in the form of a carbon steel blade with a five degree approach angle which covers a width of 1.7 m per passage. The average field capacity of the harvester is 2.25 ha per day and the blade attachment to the cultivator frame costs Rs 2,000 only.
