The Tamil Nadu Agricultural University in Coimbatore, has developed a deVice to help in the dehusking of coconut. The thick outer covering of the nut is difficult to remove and has to be stripped away slowly with the help of a sharp implement which requires time and manual labour. The new device consists of a tong-like structure mounted on a pillar. The coConut to be dehusked is placed on a platform below the tong, the jaws of which break into the husk as it is pressed down. When the jaws open, the husk separates from the nut.
