 WATER WAR [1]

Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh (AP) are heading for yet another water dispute with a public interest litigation being filed in the AP High Court, challenging the Karnataka government's decision to divert some water from the Tungabhadra reservoir at Hospet, AP. Karnataka has decided to increase the height of the Upper Tunga reservoir and divert 12.2 TMC-ft (thousand million cubic feet) of water to irrigate 2.34 lakh hectares of land in Shimoga, Dharwar and Chitradurga districts. The AP government is planning to file a case on the issue in the Supreme Court. The two states are already embroiled in a legal dispute over the Almatti dam and the sharing of Krishna river water.
