Following a Delhi High Court decision in 1994 in a civil writ, the ministry of environment and forests has set up a 7- member high power committee to preserve and protect the nation's wildlife. The committee, headed by M F Ahmed, inspector- general of forests in the ministry, will submit its recommendations to the ministry within 6 months. Members include Valmik Thapar, member, steering committee of 'Project Tiger, F S Rathore, former field director of the Ranthambhor and Sariska tiger reserves, etc.
