 Snow white peril [1]

The photograph above shows a memorial to two protestors killed in police firing in 1999 in in Chinganjam mandala of Prakasam district. Since that year, a 225 ha stretch has become a bone of contention between the local people and the Snow White Salts company. The land has been leased to this company for salt manufacturing.

Thirty thousand people who live in the 11 villages surrounding this tract use it as an aquifer for groundwater recharge. Swami Reddy of the Snow White Salts Vyathireka Porata Committee
