Justice Rajasekhar Mantha of the Calcutta High Court said that since there is no law banning the use of tobacco, nicotine and herbal products in bars and restaurants subject to the rules and regulations then neither the Kolkata Municipal Corporation nor the Bidhannagar Municipal Corporation can restrict the use of hookahs.

Order of the Supreme Court of India in the matter of Fisherman Care Vs The Government of India, Department of Animal Husbandry, Dairying and Fisheries & Others dated 24/01/2023.

The matter relates to the use of a fishing method called Purse Seine Fishing.

The Fisheries Department, government of Tamil Nadu vide its order dated March 25, 2000 had banned the use of Purse Seine Fishing nets within its territorial waters - within 12 nautical miles (22 kms from the coast line).

Judgment of the Supreme Court of India in the matter of Baharul Islam & Others Vs The Indian Medical Association & Others dated 24/01/2023. The Supreme Court said the Assam Act of 2015 (Assam Community Professionals (Registration and Competency) Act, 2015) is valid.

Order of the Calcutta High Court in the matter of Sabuj Mancha & Others Vs State of West Bengal & Others dated 11/10/2022.

The matter related to sale of green firecrackers in West Bengal. Sabuj Mancha, the petitioner stated that no mechanism has been formulated either by the state of West Bengal or by the State Pollution Control Board for ensuring sale and bursting of green crackers only. This has resulted in severe noise and air pollution in the city and other parts of the state in previous years. He prayed for a a total ban on the sale of crackers in the state.

Order of the High Court of Kerala in the matter of Suo Motu Vs State of Kerala & Others dated 06/10/2022.

The matter related to involvement of contract carriages in major accidents in Kerala and the passengers in those vehicles and other road users sustained serious injuries. Since the use of such vehicles on public place is posing potential threat to the safety of the passengers and other road users, the Assistant Solicitor General of India was asked to address arguments on behalf of the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways.

Order of the Tripura High Court in the matter of Adwitiya Chakrabarti Vs Union of India & Others dated 21/09/2022.

The Uttarakhand High Court rejected the appeal filed by Ashish Kumar Garg against the cutting of trees for the purpose of widening the road from Jogiwala/ Ladpur/ Sahastradhara Crossing/ Krishali Square/ Pacific Golf Estate in Dehradun.

The state authorities, August 16, 2022 informed the High Court that out of 1006 Eucalyptus trees which were required to be cut for the project of road widening, 528 Eucalyptus trees have already been cut down up to August 4, 2022.

Order of the High Court of Kerala in Re: Brunu (Suo Motu) Public Interest Litigation dated 14/08/2022.

The High Court of Kerala convened a special sitting taking note of the instances of dog bites being reported across the state. The HC talked about the various orders passed by the court and in particular, the order dated August 2, 2021 - wherein Thrikkakara Municipality was directed to identify areas within its geographical limits where the community dogs could be rehabilitated and sheltered.
