 Garbage disposal planned [1]

FACED with the daunting prospect of clearing nearly 80,000 tormes of solid waste everyday, the government has sought investments by the private sector to help get rid of it.

Addressing a World Health Organization conference, the Union minister for urban affairs, Sheila Kaul, said that waste management techniques developed by private companies would be paid for. All legal formalities will also be cleared to facilitate business entry.

The government has plans to enter into contracts for waste collectio and disposal with interested companies Tariff will be charged from households that are located in affluent neighbour hoods to reduce the cost of waste management incurred in low-income area and slums.
