Judgement of the National Green Tribunal regarding forest clearance granted by MoEF & CC for Demwe Lower Hydroelectric Project, Lohit District, Arunachal Pradesh, 24/10/2017 [1]

Judgement of the National Green Tribunal (Southern Zone, Chennai) in the matter of Bimal Gogoi && Others Vs State of Arunachal Pradesh & Others dated 24/10/2017 regarding Stage I Forest Clearance and Stage II Forest Clearance granted by the MoEF & CC for Demwe Lower Hydroelectric Project (1750 MW) in Lohit District of Arunachal Pradesh which would lead to diversion of 1415.92 ha (1408.30 ha surface land + 7.62 ha underground land) of forest land.

NGT Southern Bench stays Forest Clearance Stage I dated 1.3.2012 and Stage II dated 3.5.2013 issued by the MoEF and the consequential order of the Government of Arunachal Pradesh dated 267.2013 relating to diversion of 1415.92 ha of Forest Land for construction of Demwe Lower Hydro Electric Project (1750 MW) in Lohit District of Arunachal Pradesh till the Standing Committee of NBWL shall reconsider the issue relating to Demwe Lower Hydro Electric Project and pass appropriate orders within a period of six months.
