The NGT, January 2, 2020 had directed for testing the water quality of Bhavani river throughout the stretch and find out its quality and suggest remedial measures - if the water was not upto the standard. But the Joint Committee has failed to do that and the seven points from which it collected the samples, cannot represent the 135 km of the river from Nellithurai to Kooduthurai.

The committee only collected water samples from the stretch of river Bhavani that flows into Coimbatore district. The applicant has said that this would reflect the real extent of pollution of river Bhavani.

The applicant had requested for supply of drinking water to the people of Mettupalayam and other towns /villages from Vilamarathur near Nellithurai through pipeline, by shifting the present intake point to higher elevation.
