The NGT noted that most of the states have no plans to deal with solid wastes in rural areas and hilly terrains effectively and said that it was absolutely mandatory that every state follows Solid Waste Management Rules, 2016 in letter and spirit. The NGT directed the constitution of an Apex Monitoring Committee, Regional Monitoring Committees and State Level Committees to oversee the steps to be taken to give effect to the directions of the court so that if necessary, further action can be taken in the matter.
