Order of the National Green Tribunal regarding disposal of untreated sewage going to the irrigation canal, sector 137, NOIDA, Uttar Pradesh, 23/12/2021 [1]

Order of the National Green Tribunal in the matter of Abhisht Kusum Gupta Vs State of Uttar Pradesh & Others dated 23/12/2021.

[2]

The issue for consideration is the remedial action for preventing untreated sewage going to the “irrigation canal” in Sector 137, NOIDA. Sources of such discharge include non-functional/deficient STPs in 95 high rise buildings in Noida, industries as well waste water from upstream from Delhi and Ghaziabad. The said canal joins Yamuna and then Ganga.

The NGT directed NOIDA Authority, Urban Development Department, Uttar Pradesh and Chief Secretary, Delhi and CPCB take further follow up action and file compliance status within three months. NOIDA Authority would not grant any partial or completion certificates in future without ensuring compliance of EC/consent conditions and requirements of the Environment Protection and Water Acts. Uttar Pradesh and Delhi Police and East Delhi Municipal Corporation may also take such action as may be found appropriate.
