Order of the National Green Tribunal in the matter of Uday Education & Welfare Trust Vs State of Uttar Pradesh & Others dated 23/03/2022.

The matter related to illegal operation of chipper/cutter machines in district Muzaffarnagar, Uttar Pradesh. According to the applicant, some people were using machines for converting round timber into small chips and pieces to make the raw material for MDF/HDF and particle board units, without following regulatory regime under Uttar Pradesh Saw Mill Rules, 1978, as amended upto 2017. The concerned authorities have failed to take remedial action as per MoEF&CC Guidelines, November 11, 2016. Around 40 HP power engines were being used without obtaining a license from the forest department.

The NGT directed the constitution of a joint committee to look into the matter and ensure further remedial action.
