The Central Government has introduced the draft Environment (Protection) Seventh Amendment Rules, 2023 . This notification was issued on 8th November, 2023. The draft rules introduce detailed standards for the Pulp and Paper Industry.

The National Green Tribunal (NGT), June 24, 2020 had directed the PPCB to act upon the recommendations of the Joint Committee.

The National Green Tribunal (NGT) passed an order on October 31, 2019 in the matter of Yunus Daud Shaikh Vs State of Gujarat in in O.A. No. 910/2019. The matter related to air pollution in Vapi due to burning of waste and scrap from paper mills in the night and chemical contamination of ground water in Vapi area. In the said order, the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) and the Gujarat Pollution Control Board (GPCB) were jointly asked to furnish a factual and action taken report in the matter.

Order of the National Green Tribunl in the matter of Ram Sharan Vs State of Uttar Pradesh dated 17/09/2019 regarding pollution caused by M/s. J. B. Daruka Paper Limited, District Sitapur, Uttar Pradesh resulting in death of animals in the area. Following a joint report from the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) and the State Pollution Control Board (SPCB) which showed deficiencies, the Tribunal directed that further action be taken and compensation assessed and recovered. An interim compensation of Rs. 10 lakhs was directed to be recovered from the unit.
