Order of the National Green Tribunal in the matter of Bakir Ali Rangwala Vs State of Madhya Pradesh & Others dated 09/11/2023.

The matter related to removal of encroachment on a water body named Govardhan Sagar in the city of Ujjain. ADM, Ujjain informed the court on the status and progress for removal of encroachment. On the discharge of untreated water into the water body, the court has been informed that the Madhya Pradesh Pollution Control Board has calculated the compensation to the tune of Rs. 150 Lakhs (Rupees One Crore Fifty Lakhs).

The NGT, Central Zone Bench, Bhopal wanted to know whether the environmental compensation has been calculated on the date of violation found or from any other date. The SPCB has been directed to calculate the environmental compensation in accordance with the rules and then proceed to realise it and submit a report as also the further action taken by the authorities concerned.
