 Digging the earth [1]

when Raghubir Singh was six years old, the portion of the Aravallis range in Gurgaon district of Haryana was lush green, tall and majestic. Wild animals inhabiting the hills kept the residents of the nearby villages at bay. The scenario has changed. And Singh, now 35, stands witness to the gradual stripping of the verdant Aravallis.

One of the oldest mountain ranges of the world, the Aravallis find a mention in the epic Mahabharata , too. Today, they are full of craters, some as deep as 125 feet
