The Swedish government has approved a discount to motorists who switch to environment-friendly cars. The rebate of 10,000 kroner (us $1,430), which began from April 1, 2007, will continue till December 2009.
The Swedish road administration will monitor rebate payments. "We want to encourage more people to buy fuel-efficient cars and vehicles that run on environment-friendly fuels,' said environment minister Andreas Carlgren. The government has allocated 50 million kroner (us $7.1 million) towards the rebate this year and will allocate twice this during 2008-2009.
