the Centre for Disease Control and Prevention ( cdc ) in Atlanta has documented the first case where a person has been infected with the aids virus by deep kissing an hiv-infected partner whose gums were bleeding. Scott Holmberg, a doctor with cdc said that the unidentified woman's partner's saliva was contaminated because his gums bled after he brushed and flossed his teeth. "The cdc has long warned against deep kissing with infected or potentially infected persons because of this potential for contact with blood," he said. Holmberg said that none of the country's more than 500,000 reported aids cases has been attributed to exposure to saliva, which usually inhibits hiv's ability to infect. "We have not observed any instances of hiv transmission through regular kissing,' he said.
