Coal based thermal power plants with generation capacity of 500 MW or more are listed under Category A of Schedule I of the Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) Notification of Ministry of Environment and Forests (MoEF) dated 14.09.2006 published in the Gazette of India, Extraordinary, Part-II and Section 3, Sub-section (II), Ministry of Environment and Forests and requires Environmental Clearance from MoEF. Hence, setting up of Sanghipuram Thermal Power Project (STPP), Phase-I: 2 x 600MW shall require Environmental Clearance from MoEF. Further, Category A projects also attract the provisions of Public Consultation as per EIA Notification dated 14.09.2006, hence a Public Consultation is to be conducted by Gujarat Pollution
Control Board (GPCB) for STPP, Phase-I units. The present EIA Report has been prepared based on the notification and guidelines
published by MoEF from time to time and the Terms of Reference approved by the MoEF vide letter No. J-13012/55/2007-IA.II(T) dated 12.07.2007.
