This report deals with the findings of the preliminary survey conducted by the author in the state of Jammu and Kashmir. The objectives of the survey are : To find out the rough number of bear attacks that have occurred in the Kashmir valley in the last six months; To find out the number of bears and the number of humans killed or injured during the attacks; To find out the main reasons for human-bear conflict in the Kashmir valley; To find out the main reasons for human-bear conflict; and To give some practical recommendations to minimize the conflict.
