 Shrivelling up [1]

Experts feel that the Indus delta is fast drying up and devastating the lower Sindh region in Pakistan. There has been very little water in the river downstream of Kotri for five years now, which has affected agricultural lands, livestock and fishery resources. In the past, the flow of water brought one million tonnes of silt to the delta every day. But the mangrove forests have been reduced from 17,187 hectares to 9,290 hectares in just 10 years which affects water flow.
